Hello bookish friends! I'm officially back in the swing of things after my brief, much-needed break. And, let me tell you, I've already fallen headfirst into another reading obsession!
Yesterday, amidst the chaos of laundry piles, and cleaning, I decided to pop on an audiobook to keep me company. I scrolled through my library and landed on The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden. I'd heard whispers of its twisty-turny goodness, and thought, "Why not?"
And… oh. my. goodness.
From the very first chapter, I was absolutely HOOKED. McFadden has this incredible ability to draw you in with seemingly normal situations, and then slowly, meticulously, unravel the tension until you're gripping your steering wheel (or laundry basket, in my case) with white knuckles.
The premise is simple, yet utterly compelling. But it's the way McFadden tells the story, the subtle hints and the building suspense, that has me completely captivated. I found myself stealing moments to listen, even when I should have been doing other things.
I'm only a couple of chapters in, but I already have a million theories swirling in my head. And that, my friends, is the mark of a truly great thriller.
I know I said I was back and ready to blog, but this book has me so engrossed, I might be a little distracted for a while! I just had to share my initial excitement with you all.
Have any of you read The Boyfriend? No spoilers, please! But I'd love to hear your thoughts. And if you haven't, and you're looking for a suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat read, I highly recommend giving it a try.
I'll be back with a full review once I've devoured the rest of it. In the meantime, happy reading (and listening)!
